Desira South Norfolk Sunday League. Players Aid Cup. First Round.

Rickinghall 1  Hethersett Athletic A 2

Sunday 21st September 2003.

Hethersett Athletic were away to Rickinghall in the first round of the Players' Aid Cup. It was another hot Sunday morning, playing on a very hard pitch.

Both teams took time to settle with chances falling at either end. It was Rickinghall who opened the scoring after a long pass had dropped into space behind the Hethersett defence and a forward took the advantage to slot home past 'keeper Tom Rainsford.

Hethersett hit back and attacks were being made by both wingers, Rob Pugh and Ed Gardner. Tim Allenden and Paul Martin were both working hard to break down the Rickinghall defence. Hethersett continued to push forward and were award a corner. The penetrating corner, taken by Rob Pugh, found its way into the centre of the goal area and to the feet of Chris Kerr, who volleyed home, from close range to even the score.

Hethersett were determind to get another goal after the break. Both teams played an even, competitive game. Chances fell to James Millson, Ade Moore and, after 20 minutes, Tim Allenden put Hethersett into the lead with a well taken strike. Hethersett's defence of Danny Holman, Mike Douglas, Martin Mowser and Darren Carter were playing a well controlled game with Mike Pugh and Chris Kerr working hard in midfield.

Hethersett held on to win 2-1. A good sporting game played by two competitive teams.
